MEC LEHARI PAYS TRIBUTE TO HONOURABLE MAPITI MATSENA, GAUTENG MPL

Having to pay tribute to anyone who has passed on, is not easy at all. It is even more so difficult when such a person is a dependable comrade and friend that Honourable Mapiti Matsena was. Coming from an area which borders four Provinces; Gauteng, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, it was inevitable that our paths would cross.

We travelled a long road together for many years both in and outside politics. I was at some point the Regional Executive Committee (REC) member of ANC in Bojanala Region in North and he was in a similar position in ANC Gauteng's Tshwane Region at the same time.

For all the years, I have known him as a fearless cadre who was of courageous character yet remained a very humbled soul.

I remember an extraordinary selfless human being; a man whose humour could have easily opened doors in the entertainment industry had he chose to do so. Those with whom Honourable Matsena interacted will remember the infectious personality he was.

Despite all tribulations he had to go through like many during our political struggles, unlike many he never lost his energy and resilience. When many were prepared to give up, he was the voice of reason and kept reassuring us to never despair. He believed that our fulfilment is in selfless servitude to the people.

When weariness crept in, he always stood up to encourage us never to lose optimism and continue working to better life's of our nation's communities. Nothing dampened his buoyant spirit, always opinionated on matters of national interest and was devoted to his party, the ANC.

He had a largeness of spirit many wish to have, an ability to see past differences in search of common good, only few can claim.
His life was callously cut short on the eve of his 54th birthday but we hope the long arm of the law will punish doers of this heinous crime.
He had showed us what patriotism and loyalty to one’s cause means; and for that some of us, those with whom he interacted, are deeply indebted to the course he pursued.

As the Holy Bible in Romans 8:38 – 39 teaches us;
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
We pray for his family, relatives and friends as well as his comrades and colleagues both in ANC and Gauteng Legislature to be sustained during this painful period.
May God bless his soul and may Comrade Mapiti Matsena repose in eternal peace.
